Shopify integration

Connect a Shopify store with OAuth so auto-post.io can publish AI-generated articles to Online Store blogs.

Prerequisites

  • A Shopify store with at least one Online Store blog
  • Permission to install or authorize the auto-post.io Shopify app
  • An auto-post.io account with enough credits for generation

Connection uses OAuth only. You enter your {shop}.myshopify.com domain; there is no manual API key flow in the app.

Connect with OAuth

  1. Open Websites (or continue from onboarding / website analysis).
  2. Choose Connect Shopify.
  3. Enter your shop domain, for example your-store.myshopify.com.
  4. Authorize auto-post.io on Shopify (flow starts at Shopify connect).
  5. After the callback, you return to the websites list with the store connected.

During connection, auto-post.io:

  • Exchanges the OAuth code for an offline access token
  • Loads shop info and Online Store blogs
  • Selects a default blog (first match for blog/news/journal, otherwise the first blog)
  • Stores the shop domain, tokens, and default blog ID on a website with platform shopify
  • Queues category sync, brand analysis, and a delayed connection health check

If no blog is found, the store can still be connected, but you must create a blog in Shopify Online Store before publishing.

What the integration can do

Once connected, campaigns and articles can:

  • Create, update, and delete Shopify blog articles (Admin GraphQL)
  • Publish or keep drafts (isPublished and publish date)
  • Set title, HTML body, summary, SEO title/description metafields, and featured image
  • Sync blogs as website categories (see below)
  • Enrich website analysis with shop name, description, brand, and products (useful for password-protected storefronts)

Categories on Shopify

Shopify does not use WordPress-style categories. In auto-post.io:

  • Each Online Store blog is synced as a website category
  • Article tags are not used for category mapping
  • On publish, the first selected category that maps to a blog sets the article blog; otherwise the default shopifyBlogId is used

Publishing tips

  • Confirm at least one Online Store blog exists before connecting
  • Start with auto-publish disabled to review the first generated posts
  • Pick the target blog via campaign categories when you have several blogs
  • If publish fails, reconnect from Websites and use Publish / Re-publish on the article

Common issues

IssueWhat to check
Invalid shop domainUse your-store.myshopify.com (not only the custom domain)
Authorization deniedComplete the Shopify OAuth screens while logged into the correct store
Connected but cannot publishCreate an Online Store blog in Shopify, then reconnect or wait for category sync
Password-protected storefront analysisAnalysis uses Admin/Storefront shop data and products; unlock Online Store or set Brand assets for better logo/brand signals
Wrong public URLPrimary domain comes from Shopify shop info at connect time; edit the website name/URL in auto-post.io if needed

TIP

After connecting, run Website analysis so campaign suggestions can use your catalog and brand instead of a password-wall page.
